Do You have Irish Ancestors in Your DNA?
A very large percentage of Americans have Irish ancestors and with DNA testing they are able to show the link back to the old sod.
There is a current series of Irish history being shown on the BBC and the historical researchers are showing a little different twist to some of the legend and lore of the earliest settlers of Ireland and Northern Ireland in particular.
You may come away from this series with a different perspective as the researchers have straightened out some of the twists in the ancient stories and you will have a better understanding of the Vikings as resourceful settlers and traders in Ireland rather than as the barbarous marauders that you have been led to believe.
This five part series named “The Story of Ireland”, started in February and ran on BBC One, which concerned Northern Ireland only. Next Monday, May 16th the second part of this series will be run on BBC Two at 19:00 British time.
By using DNA testing in archeological digs and comparing the results with known DNA samples of individuals in historical times, some of the old ideas and perspective can be shown to be in need of correction.
It does not appear from the press release that these programs are available for replay online, however you may want to purchase the complete programs on DVD.
