Epigenetics Your Environment and Your Genes

The study of Epigenetics is how our genes interact within our environment as a molecular mechanism. This is a relatively new field of research to see just how much of an impact our environment has in the long term health of people or if their genes are the deciding factor on how long they live and what genetic diseases we may encounter along the way.

What is already known is that there are mechanisms in the cells of our body that turn on and off due to signals. This field of study is attempting to determine if the signals come from within the cells themselves, from other neighboring cells or the environment we live in.

As part of this research, the influence on our environment is the main focus. Areas that are being closely looked at include the care our mothers had while they were carrying the unborn children, the diets of people along with the stress factors we all live with.

The study of Epigenetics will help to determine if people are prisoners to bad genes we inherited from our parents or if we can change the outcome of our health by the way we live.
